Welcome to the debut of Inkspitter Studio!
A New Upgraded Studio Space
Suitable for Art Education and Content Creation!
Many of you may know who I am as an artist under my banner Jessica Nunno Art. This was the name of my business for roughly 10 years and the name I grew my business under. Well part of the process of growing is figuring out your identity. My identity as an artist and as a business began to evolve a couple of years ago as I began to shift my goals as an entrepreneur.
The concept of Inkspitter Studio has been in my head for a while. I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but I was lacking the opportunity to do it. Many of you may know I had a studio on the second floor of Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment for roughly 5 years. AND! many of you have witnessed me use every inch of wall space to my advantage and even getting inventive about my use of the space.
I outgrew my small studio probably within the first 2 years I was there. For almost that long I have wanted to move to a larger studio space. But, of course doing this would require a huge gamble and a leap of faith in myself.
After a massive year of change in my life throughout 2022, I knew I needed something to push myself forward. Otherwise I knew I would stay where I was and plateau in my career. At the beginning of 2023 I took a leap of faith and I inquired about an available studio space. A studio I had had my eye on for years. Of course this studio was taken! But, I was offered a different studio that would prove to be far more ideal than what I had imagined. I moved in March 2023 into a studio space on the floor of Lowe Mill, directly on the other side of a main door to the complex, that was almost 5x larger than my previous very small studio space. Not only was this studio 5x larger, but it has a real ceiling, an actual door, is surrounded by windows, a hall with a storage closet and a room I can use as an office/ dedicated studio space. How could I ever think of passing this up!?
Thus, Inkspitter Studio was finally created and is currently under large development. I am in the process of rebranding from Jessica Nunno Art to Inkspitter Studio. The plan for this new chapter in my business is quite involved. After teaching private lessons for nearly 5 years and running group classes for the Huntsville Museum of Art and The North Alabama Education Collaborative (now called Creative Launchpad). I have always had a passion for art education and I firmly believe in sharing my wealth of knowledge with others rather than coveting it. I felt the desire to run group classes of my own and to start specializing my classes. Inkspitter Studio is a school dedicated to teaching illustration, comics and cartooning concepts.
Over the past few years consistently I have been asked about teaching more involved, more advanced illustration and comic concepts. I have taught classes on these subjects through the organizations I have been contracted through, but I could only teach so much and go so far. Almost every one of my private lesson students have come to me wanting to learn things such as anatomy, character design, shading, color, backgrounds, how to write a story... and I have been approached numerous times about group classes.
Now, finally after all of this time, group classes, camps, workshops and tutorials are going to be an option. More than that the art club: The Junior Illustrator's Guild (an art club for preteens and teenagers) I started through Zoom and Discord during the height of Covid will have monthly in person meetings. Along with an art club dedicated to adults over the age of 18 as well called Sketch Hour.
Inkspitter Studio is more than a school however. It is the banner under which I am going to publish my illustrations, my own comic, webcomics, art books (coffee table and resource) and zines from. All of which are also currently under development with more information to come.
This is an exciting and busy time for me. As I get all of this up and running. Setting up your own school isn't easy and there's a lot that goes in behind the scenes (from marketing and advertising, admin work, curriculum development, content creation, social media, filming, setting up shows and vending... ) I do strongly believe this larger studio space, with my new direction and my skillset that I can meet the demand of the art education being asked of me. And, give others the opportunity to pursue their own desire of creating illustrations and comics with a story of their own.
Here is a behind the scenes tour of what my new studio looks like as of June 2023. I intend to make more videos similar to this one as my studio evolves because I do have A LOT planned for it. Enjoy the tour and I certainly hope you can stop by in person to see the space.
Thank You All For Your Support!
My business couldn't have grown as much as it has over the course of the past 10 years and especially the past 5. Because of the support of my family, friends, students, patrons and followers I have been able to grow my business and undertake this bold move of rebranding and starting an entire school and publication banner.
So welcome the all new: Inkspitter Studio!
